AHIWS provides support for IB schools in a variety of ways. Firstly, it provides a network through which schools following IB programmes can liaise with one another in order to share best practice. It also promotes meaningful and productive dialogue including conferences, workshops, area network meetings as well as informal discussion among schools, all of which contribute towards making AHIWS a rich source of mentorship and support for its associate and member schools.
To promote the IB Mission, philosophy, pedagogy and expansion in South Asia (includes all IB schools of India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal).
To promote recognition of IB DP-CP for students seeking admissions to institutions of higher education.
To provide support in strengthening leadership in IB World Schools in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
To organise an Annual Conference and periodical events where Heads of authorised and candidate IB Schools exchange educational practices, innovations, collaborations, training programmes, workshops, lectures, presentations in order to promote deeper understanding of IB educational systems and processes etc.
To identify and share ideas, resources and actions, for education in IB authorized and candidate schools.
To provide professional development opportunities for all authorised and candidate schools.
Play ambassadorial role vis-à-vis the wider community, external stakeholders and other like-minded organisations.
To assist, support and mentor newly authorised and candidate schools in their IB Journey.
To collaborate on student projects for enhancing learning and teaching practices.
The deep-rooted commitment to the IB mission and philosophy of the founding Executive Committee that served for two terms has set the foundation for a robust community that creates opportunities for meaningful discourse among IB educators and implementation of best educational practices within the IB paradigm

At the IB Global Conference in Adelaide in March 2023, the IB Heads Association of India was recognised and celebrated. The Director General of IBO, Oli Pekka and the President of the IB Heads Association India Capt Rohit Sen Bajaj signed the MOU; a historic moment witnessed by nearly 80 Heads representing India at the conference.
All IB schools in India are eligible to join the association. The association works at regional level to promote collaboration between various IB Schools in the region. At present, we operate through three regional chapters. Each region has its own executive committee and member schools.
